List of Sliders episodes |
"Eggheads" is the eighth episode of the science fiction television show Sliders. It originally aired on April 26, 1995.
Plot[]
The group arrive on a world where intellect is cherished, and Quinn and Arturo are celebrities referred to by the locals as Sliders. Quinn realizes that his double must have built a sliding machine and that it presents the Sliders with an opportunity to return to their home dimension. After a visit to Quinn’s double’s house fails to turn up anything, they visit the university where, on this world, Arturo is the Chairman and Quinn is the star player for the university’s Mindgame team.
It is eventually revealed that Arturo’s double is involved in a bitter divorce with his wife, the double of Arturo’s own late wife, for infidelity and he spends the majority of his time in this world trying to rekindle his relationship with her, having lost his wife to a brain aneurysm when she was 27. Quinn, meanwhile, learns that his double was a compulsive gambler who fled for his life after being threatened by the mob. The Sliders come to realize that there is no sliding machine on this world, the machine being a convenient excuse for Quinn and Arturo’s doubles to flee town without raising suspicion.
Quinn uses the Mindgame championship to set a trap for the mob while Arturo records a video message for his double, to be played upon that man’s return. Quinn plays well in the championship and then he and the other Sliders flee to a nearby rooftop where they spring the trap on the mob. Arturo opens the vortex and the others slide out. Before he slides, Quinn utters a Latin phrase at the mobsters. When asked by the Feds what it means, the boss translates it as “So long, suckers.”

Trivia[]
- Several first season episodes were originally shown out of order. This episode was intended to be aired eighth but was instead shown seventh.
- The game of Mindgame has some similarities to the board game Reversi.
- In what would have to be considered a continuity error, Quinn gives his address as "4159 Bluejay Way". In the pilot, the number on the house in which Quinn lives can be seen as "401", the front door in the pilot is white and opens to the left and the door in "Eggheads" is yellow and opens to the right. While this can be explained as simply architects in different dimensions having different styles/tastes, it does not explain how Quinn would know the address to go to since it's not where he lived before beginning sliding.
